The quote above is from a new study done by researchers at the University of Minnesota. They analyzed Medicaid records across 12 states and discovered the findings above.
Right now, only two states, Minnesota and Oregon, currently provide access to doulas for low-income, expectant mothers on Medicaid through reimbursement programs.
Doulas can provide support for mom while she is pregnant, during childbirth, and in the postpartum period.
While having a doula may be an additional cost, the support they provide is priceless.

There are a few potential reasons for this. There has been a drop in the number of teen moms, women are staying in school longer, they’re waiting to get married, and they’re waiting to have kids until they’ve reached career milestones.
